A clevis joint is a type of coupling where the mating component fits between the forks and is held in place via a clevis pin. Made to DIN 71752 and also known as a fork end or yoke, they are commonly used as a coupling on the end of air cylinders or at the either end of a turnbuckle or wire rope for tensioning.
Our range of rotary components includes rod ends, clevis joints, ball and socket joints, precision spur gears, flex pivots, turnbuckles, gear boxes and rigid couplings. As these are specialist parts don't hesitate to get in touch with our technical engineers who can help with calculations and choose the right products for your application.

The load is statistically on tensile. The ascertained strengths are only an indicative value and no assured characteristics.
Clevis Joints vs Shackles: What's the difference?
Clevis joints and shackles are both U-shaped mechanical coupling devices however the main difference lies in how they are used. Clevis joints have a threaded end and normally used on the end of threaded tie bars. Shackles are normally looped onto the end of wire rope or chains. Clevis joints are also usually closed with a non-threaded clevis pin for easier uncoupling. Shackles are typically secured via a threaded pin or a threaded bolt.
What are Clevis Joints used for?
Clevis joints are highly versatile and are deployed in a wide variety of industries including automation technology, the food industry, packaging industry and many others. Clevis joints are suitable in applications with high loads due to the strength of the clevis pin and used as a form of connecting two different elements together where rotation is required in one axis but restricting it in another.
Is a Clevis Pin stronger than a bolt?
This depends largely on the material each component is made from and the application, enviornmental conditions they are exposed to. Please get in touch with us to discuss your application where we can offer you further assistance.
