A spur gear is a cylindrical toothed wheel in which the teeth are aligned parallel to the axis of rotation.
They interlock together to transfer and multiply torque from one shaft to another parallel one.
Alternatively, to convert rotational motion into linear motion, spur gear can interact with a spur gear rack – this is essentially a spur gear with an infinite radius (i.e. rack and pinion). When interlocked, the gears rotate in opposite directions.
There are a great many different pairing combinations (based on the module sizes) but they may be noisy at high speeds.
We have spur gear in a variety of materials and sizes, either in stock or with a very short lead time!

Module 0.3 Spur Gear available in brass (C3604B) with 14-120 teeth. Accuracy to JIS B 1702-1 (ISO) class 9.
We have module 0.5 Spur Gear in stock in carbon steel, stainless steel, brass and plastic. Versions with between 1-120 teeth, and bored/boreless Spur Gear are available.
Plastic Spur Gears can be a cheaper alternative to Metal Spur Gears. We have white (machined - JIS B 1702-1 (ISO) class 9-10) and black (injection moulded - lower accuracy) versions in stock.
These special blue, machined thermoplastic (polyacetal/POM) Spur Gears with 14-120 teeth, are approved for use in the food and drink industries. The blue colour is easily detected by food scanning devices (which scan for foreign objects contaminating the foodstuff).
We stock module 0.75 Spur Gears in steel, stainless steel and brass. Hubbed and hubless versions available.
Module 0.8 Spur Gear are available in steel, stainless steel, brass and thermoplastic polymer (polyacetal/POM). 10-120 teeth.
White plastic machined Spur Gear with brass bushing - for applications that require tight bore tolerances. With thread for set screw.

This is a special weight-reduced Spur Gear made of carbon steel. 60-100 teeth.
Blue plastic Spur Gear made from machined polyacetal (POM; a thermoplastic) available in module sizes 0.8-1.5.
Backlash is the amount of clearance between two gears - the distance between the trailing edge of the driving tooth, and the leading edge of the tooth behind it. All gears have backlash, but it can be minimised by choosing gears made to high accuracy standards.
Backlash can be further minimised by the use of anti-backlash gears. Anti-backlash gears do still allow for lubrication and thermal expansion. The main applications for anti-backlash Spur Gears are usually in processes when repeated overlays must be applied to an object precisely, or where any jerky movements upon changing gear direction may cause issues (e.g. rigs used in filming or construction).
Right angle Two Shaft Gear Boxes in lightweight aluminium alloy housing. Available in sizes up to Ø24.
Our Spur Gear are either from stock or on a short lead time. We deliver internationally from our UK warehouse. Full export documentation is always provided for overseas customers. We supply a range of hubbed and non-hubbed gears in modules 0.3-5, strengthened or weight reduced. All gears are to the relevant ISO/JIS standards.
