The definition of a gearbox is literally a box containing gears. A gearbox takes input power and transmits it to the output shafts - which can, for example, have less speed and more power, or more speed and less power. The output torque and speed is determined by the input power and the gear ratio. Gearboxes also allow for power transmission to change direction - e.g. right-angled gearboxes. There are many types of gearbox: bevel gearboxes, helical gearboxes, and worm gearboxes are all examples.

For three way gearboxes the maximum output torque must be shared equally, between output shafts B and C. These right angled gearboxes can be used also as a speed increasers subject to a max 750 rpm. Speeds above 1400 rpm are only permitted for a short time.

Refer to the table to select the gear box that has a maximum output torque of >24 Nm. Choose part number R2358 (max. output torque = 31 Nm).
