Automotion Components is a leading manufacturer of precision shoulder fastenings. Our shoulder screws can be produced to customer drawings and we can offer a wide range of materials and finishing options. We hold a large volume of metric and imperial shoulder screws (and bolts) in stock which means that we can usually offer same-day shipping from our warehouse in the UK.
Latest shoulder screw update: we have added titanium shoulder screws to our standard in-stock range and a new vented shoulder screw for vacuum applications!
Shoulder screws are also known as shoulder bolts or stripper bolts. Their sizes are normally described by the shoulder diameter x shoulder length. Once installed, the shoulder section, which is slightly larger in diameter as compared to the threaded section, can act as a shaft for rotating bearings to create simple cam followers, pivot points, or for pulleys and gears.
Similar to other types of fasteners, shoulder screws are meant to fix or hold two items together. Unlike standard fasteners however, shoulder screws are designed for use in something that requires a dowel, mounting pin, or shaft to rotate around. It is because of this that the tolerances on the shoulder part of the shoulder screw are held tightly as it normally needs to locate inside something which itself is held to tight tolerances.
As standard components they are available in a multitude of head styles including socket cap, slotted, hex head, and torx. Standard materials include 12,9 high tensile steel, AISI 303 series stainless steel (A2), AISI 316 series stainless steel (A4) and a higher tensile strength grade AISI 416 series stainless steel. The table below gives you an indication as the array of different styles and materials available.

We proudly manufacture our shoulder screws on our fully automated machines in the UK. At Automotion Components we are constantly manufacturing many of the above styles of shoulder screws in-house - both for stock and to fulfil special customer orders. It is because of our ability to manufacture that we can offer bespoke custom shoulder screws. If you require a shoulder screw to sizes that do not confirm to a standard or from a more "exotic" material such as brass, titanium or many others, we can manufacture to your drawings on short lead times. We can also offer a wide range of post-processing finishes such as passivation or applying coatings.
We try to make our website as helpful and as informative as possible. It is with this in mind that our product pages not only contain dimensional information on our shoulder screws but also live stock availability, pricing levels, online ordering and free CAD downloads that don’t require you to have register and fill in one of those annoying forms! Please see our dedicated shoulder screw overview page for more details.
